Alias
£34.99 for PS2 & Xbox

Keeping true to the characterisation of the television show whilst presenting players with a completely new storyline is ALIAS from Acclaim in which they adopt the role of Sydney Bristow, the glamorous CIA spy and star of the series. Of course, like all super-spies, Sydney is well versed in high-tech gadgetry and expert in the field of martial arts – both of which are skills that will serve her well in this tale of espionage and intrigue.

Played in the third person the gameplay comes in the form of missions with a number of objectives. Completion of one objective is usually followed by another one being revealed and as such it is easy to figure out what needs to be done. Plus there is the additional help from a team of other CIA operatives with specialist skills to help out in the trickier moments.

As the name implies Sydney is also able to don an instant disguise – an alias as it were – and this enables her to hide in plain sight of her enemies. Nevertheless, there are times when pure stealth is necessary – either to hide from foes or in order to sneak up on them for a quick stealth kill. Wall-hugging, peering around corners, creeping, crawling and climbing are also useful skills but, to be honest, the same results can be obtained by charging in with fists and feet flying…!

Sydney is pretty mean in combat situations and seems more than capable of taking out multiple enemies with ease. This is enhanced further when she utilises everyday household items and converts them into weapons… bottles, brooms, mallets, ladles and candlesticks are just some of the things used to whup ass along with the occasional firearm but in reality her full and awesome compliment of martial art skills alone are sufficient.

Technology also plays its part – usually in hacking into computers and picking locks, sometimes both and against the clock too…! However the real fun of the gameplay is the fighting and players are treated to some excellent sequences and combos that even Bruce Lee would be proud of…

Price: £34.99 for PS2 and Xbox.
