"For centuries man recognised the
longest day of the year, the solstice, as a time of
great power and dangerous forces.
Today it is thought to be a time of renewal and celebration.
But there are places where the darker side of the solstice
remains strong.”
SOLSTICE marks the return to feature filmmaking of
Daniel Myrick, the man behind one of the most unique
and successful horror films in modern times, The Blair
Witch Project, telling a chilling tale of secrets and
spirits. For most high school graduates looking forward
to college, the middle of summer is an exciting time,
gaining their independence, partying with friends and
looking forward to new things; it’s a time of
celebration. For the well-off kids of New Orleans’
upscale Garden District, the middle of summer is a time
to party like never before. Only for Megan, this particular
summer is a time of mourning and loss due to her identical
twin sister Sophie’s unexplained suicide, six
months earlier.
Although haunted by her sister’s shocking death,
Megan attempts to escape her troubles and joins her
closest friends on their annual retreat; a trip to the
backwoods of rural Louisiana for a weekend of fun at
her families rustic boat house. This time Megan’s
problems are just beginning as she starts to suspect
that Sophie may be trying to communicate with her from
beyond the grave, the summer solstice is no longer just
a day on the calendar, but a time when the boundary
between our world and the spirit realm will be at it’s
thinnest, the haunting drama that results could shatter
the fragile relationships between Megan and her friends,
and change their young lives forever.
