ATLANTIS
II
is an amazing sequel to an amazing game and it continues the battle between good and evil,
light and dark, order and chaos. Ten, son of Seth, the original hero of Atlantis, carries
a terrible burden. He alone must travel a long road in order to save the world from
darkness and evil and discover new knowledge from his journey. It
begins in Tibet, a windswept land of ice and snow, where Ten first learns of his mission
but very quickly leaps continents to Central America a land inhabited by ancient
feathered Indians. Their chief is about to sacrifice himself to the gods unless Ten can
reach the gods first and persuade them to send Chulel, or life force, to strengthen the
crops. This in turn takes him by mystical means to Shambahala, the land of the dead, where
many strange puzzles, riddles and traps await. In
fact danger awaits him in each of the five locations that include China, Yucatan and
Ireland too but the non-linear method of gameplay means that players can dictate their own
course through the game. In an adventure of this magnitude (4 CDs) exploration is
the key. You must thoroughly search each scenario and solve as many puzzles as possible
before moving on to the next. Your conversations with around 60 interactive characters
will obviously help but even then their answers may be enigmatic and confusing. Navigation
is via an intuitive pointer and everything is controlled with the mouse. This leaves time
to concentrate on the more serious aspects of the title and allows you to take in the
fantastic scenery and graphics. They really are stunning and true to life. The transitions
between gameplay and animation sequences are hardly noticeable and the characters are rich
and detailed with full speech capacity. ATLANTIS
II
is packed with the stuff of legend where evil gods, dragons, magic and mystery
are woven into a storyline that leaves you begging for more. |
