Taking full advantage of the latest
graphics technology AQUANOX is a visually stunning game set deep beneath the waves
of a post-apocalyptic world and, as such, players who want to experience this deadly
paradise will need to be kitted out with the latest cards and drivers. However, if you can
manage at least a P3-500 with a recent 3D upgrade you are in for a visual photo-realistic
treat and plenty of exciting underwater warfare. The game is actually a sequel to Archimedean Dynasty from about 5 years ago but the intervening time has been well spent totally redesigning the aquatic realm into which players are thrust as Emerald Dead Eye Flint, a mercenary with many challenges to face. Across 34 mission-based scenarios hell come up
against all sorts of hostiles including submarine monsters and ancient gods, as well as a
full range of normal enemies, but at least he has a good assortment of aquatic
vehicles to do battle with. Around 40 submersibles come into play with an appropriate
number of upgrades available to enhance speed, shields and firepower, and each is capable
of unleashing some awesome armament with stunning explosive effects. Playing (in some respects) like a space shooter, youll have the full advantage of 360-degree action, blistering speed and superb manoeuvrability plus the added bonus of some excellent scenery to replace those boring star fields. The world of Aqua is alive with dancing light reflecting off lazily floating seaweed, submersed mountain ranges, twisting caverns and a myriad other oceanic features including underwater cities. Sadly, you may not have too much time to admire the view as the action can get pretty frantic to say the least and its all accompanied by an unusual, if slightly inappropriate, soundtrack. However, the visual department more than makes up for that one small downer and if your PC is up to it you wont find a better pretty game around. Price: £29.99 on PC CD ROM. |
