Especially designed for
pre-school children the ADIBOO CHOO series from Knowledge Adventure focuses on
helping the little ones become accustomed to using basic computer skills as well as
improving their counting, memory and identification skills and the titles are all wrapped
up in colourful and friendly interactivities. In ADIBOO CHOO’S COUNTRYSIDE ADVENTURE
for example everything concentrates on things to see and do in a pastoral setting and
comes complete with fluffy animals, buzzing insects and a couple of bubbly guides to
explain the games. Basic primary colours predominate throughout, which are easily
identified by the target audience of 2-4 year-olds, and the adventure begins in
Adiboo’s house. Here players will find lots of animations to discover and there are
four main activities to enjoy. Colouring, rhymes, sound bingo and jigsaw
puzzles, suitably geared for the age group, are a great way to get youngsters familiar
with using the mouse and on-screen icons but when they feel like a change they can click
on the window and zoom off to the countryside. Once again there are several animations to
find here but clicking on certain features will offer another 7 learning games. There’s the lily pond where they’ll
master smaller and bigger, the multicoloured flower game that concentrates on recognition
and the guessing barn where the emphasis is on animal sounds. Then there’s an animal
picnic, a book of seasons, a rabbit food hunt and some dancing fruit and vegetables where
rhythm is explored so there’s plenty to do. Each activity begins with a discovery session
or simplified version of the game. This shows them how to play each one before moving
through 3 stages of difficulty but they can leave at any time and move on to another area.
Even leaving an activity has a learning aspect as they are asked to confirm their
intentions by selecting the standing monkey, the monkey sitting on the green box or the
one next to the red square etc. A parental guide is also provided to monitor a
child’s progress but you’ll find that youngsters will be having so much fun with
Adiboo Choo and his friends that you can quite happily let them get on with it.
