Arthur's
Good Deed Contest |
||
The problem with many computer games,
particularly those for younger children, is that they are all very similar. Where they do
differ is in the characters they present on-screen and it always helps a child to
associate with a character if they recognise them from television programs or books.
However, in ARTHURS GOOD DEED CONTEST from The Learning Co, the faces of
Arthur and his friends will be instantly recognised amongst 5 to 7 year-olds as they all
appear regularly on the telly. Blinky, DW, Muffy, Brain, Francine and Buster join Arthur as they
all team up to try and win Bionic Bunnys good deed contest and, as you may have
guessed, they all have some problems that the children can help them with. Muffy, for
example, has decided that the Worlds End Park has a bit too much litter lying around
but to help her get from one end of the park to the other players will have to find the
correct answer to some simple arithmetic. Francine, on the other hand, is over at Mr. Gumdrops sweet
shop and hes in a bit of a pickle
! Hes forgotten his tape measure and is
trying to cut the correct lengths of wrapping paper by measuring it against a line of
sweets. To help him players will have to pull on the roll until its just the right
length for what he needs. Blinky is down by the stream and he has a more practical problem
that involves a variation of Frogger while Brain needs some sounds recognising
before his computer will work properly. Arthur unfortunately keeps losing track of everyone but by
following the clues he can be guided to their hiding place, Buster and DW have some
trouble with spelling and theres lots of other activities too. Success awards a
printable certificate and parents can check progress on a simple achievement chart.
Theres even a second bonus CD that contains a music machine, a storybook maker and
loads of things to print and do. If you want to help Arthur and his friends solve their problems the title is available now and priced at £19.99 on PC CD ROM. Arthur has a couple of other adventures that the kids might prefer. In his Camping Adventure there are 6 great activities and more than 20 places to visit. These are packed with around 40 nature surprises for the kids to discover and there's 30 printable activities too. They include puzzles, crafts and games and the title is a wonderful introduction to the natural world. In his Afternoon Adventure Arthur finds lots of perfect ways to spend a sunny day. Building robots and a shape shadow game are just 2 of the 8 he comes up with and with loads of other activities on the bonus CD there's still plenty to occupy them even if the weather turns nasty...! Camping Adventure & Afternoon Adventure are also priced at £19.99. |
